The BWO20 is considered one of Yanagisawa's 'Elite' models, offering refinements in mechanism beyond what's available in the BWO1 and BWO2 models. The BWO20 features a 'fully ribbed' construction, with strips of brass soldered onto the sax's body, onto which various pillars are soft soldered. This provides added 'body' to the tone while offering even further structural integrity. The Elite series also features double arms on the lowest and most vulnerable keys, adding stability to the setup.
Now let's explore the key mechanism improvements that Yanagisawa has made:
The right little finger keys' angle has been changed for smoother fingering.
A set of 'feet' has been added beneath the side Bb and C levers, along with optimization of the mechanical side of producing these notes.
A newly designed Low A thumb key provides smoother fingering.
The strap ring has been repositioned for easier playing.
A newly designed right-hand key guard is exclusive to the new baritones. It protects the player from getting their trousers caught in the mechanics when balancing the bell section on this area.
The upper bow brace has been redesigned for a stylish look.
In addition, there are adjustments to sound and intonation:
Tone-hole sizes and positions have been readjusted for better intonation.
A plate has been added to the front of the neck pipe to 'tighten the sound from middle to high register.'
Finally, there's a newly designed case that's more practical than the previous model. It's now a backpack-style design, similar to the altos and tenors, but with beautifully designed and slickly inset wheels, essential for any baritone player on the road! The case also has more pocket space to store accessories.
