It offers warmth, colour and personality across the whole range, with a rich tonal core, perfect for carrying a sax section from the ground up, or soaring across a concert hall as a soloist. Add in Yanagisawa's trademark keywork ergonomics and slick mechanisms, and you've got a world class professional instrument fit for all manner of demanding musical environments. And did we mention the bronze? Just look at that bronze!
The WO series baritones have had a number of exciting updates over the previous 900-series models, including:
- Redesigned low C/D# pinky keys
- Stopping arms on the right hand side keys, for a more solid feel
- Redesigned low A key touch
- New substantially larger body-side key guard, to protect the body and keywork
- Relocated strap ring - much more comfortable with a harness
- Redesigned neck, featuring added brass plate near the receiver for extra stability
- Changed tone hole dimensions and layout, for superior intonation and ergonimics
- New case - lovely solid case with built-in backpack straps and wheels
We were very priviledged recently to have 4 marvellous WO baritones under the one roof, and sax specialist Aidan had this to say about this model:
"This was the game-changer for me. Having adored Yanagisawa’s bronze sopranos and tenors, I was extremely eager to try a bronze bari, and I honestly believe this one comprehensively exceeded my expectations. What I want from my bari is a powerful, solid core sound, and a sensible but not overbearing amount of colour and personality. For me, this bari had the most impressive and rock-solid core sound of the lot, paired with the responsiveness and agility of the WO1 horns, and a beautiful range of warm and lush tone colours on offer. It even possesses some of what I would call my favourite quality of the vintage Conn and King tenors, where the horn seems to “come to life” in your hands and you feel entirely connected and engaged in the experience. It’ll happily follow you from angry, aggressive funk playing to warm Harry Carney-esque balladry. It adds more of its own colour than the brass horns did, but when the colour is this nice I’m perfectly happy with that."
