Yanagisawa's attention to detail is uncompromising, and from the ultra smooth key action to the firm, snappy leather pads, every aspect of these saxophones is beautifully polished and refined.
The WO series baritones have had a number of exciting updates over the previous 900-series models, including:
- Redesigned low C/D# pinky keys
- Stopping arms on the right hand side keys, for a more solid feel
- Redesigned low A key touch
- New substantially larger body-side key guard, to protect the body and keywork
- Relocated strap ring - much more comfortable with a harness
- Redesigned neck, featuring added brass plate near the receiver for extra stability
- Changed tone hole dimensions and layout, for superior intonation and ergonimics
- New case - lovely solid case with built-in backpack straps and wheels
We were very priviledged recently to have 4 marvellous WO baritones under the one roof, and sax specialist Aidan had this to say about this model:
"The big boy! You certainly feel the extra weight of this horn when you pick it up, as the ultra-solid ribbed construction gives you more brass and ergo more heft. Playing this horn reminded me of all the aspects I love about the Selmer Series II – it’s got a big, beefy core sound, and outstanding versatility. It’s rare to find saxophones that exceed so well at every style and every sound you ask them to do. You notice the extra degree of polish and finesse above the WO1. Tonally it’s more even across the range, it has a noticeably more hefty sound, and it inspires a staggering amount of confidence. I’d say it drives like a luxury European car – it will take you everywhere as smoothly and comfortably as you can possibly go, but it also impresses greatly when driven in anger. My only critique would be that it’s not quite as lightning responsive as the lighter WO1s, but in saying that it’s hardly sluggish. Best all-rounder on the market? Quite possibly."
