Eastman has expanded its range with the introduction of the Rue Saint-Georges tenor and alto saxophones, which differ from the American-style 52nd St series. These French-style instruments offer a more refined and focused sound, and boast new features that are revolutionizing saxophone design.
One such feature is the 'DS' mechanism, developed in collaboration with WMS Haynes, where Eastman is the parent company. The mechanism is named after WMS Haynes' head body designer, David Schipani, and has resulted in exceptional new designs for the 850 range.
Two necks: The 850 series introduces two different necks, ‘R’ and the ‘S’. Both designed with a different sound in mind, the ‘S’ is designed to be more open, allowing more flexibility and brilliance and is reminiscent of necks from the 30s and 40s. The ‘R’ is designed to have more stability and even more accurate intonation and is reminiscent of necks from the 50s and 60s.
Redesigned octave key mechanism: A much more ergonomic and comfortable thumb rest which has strayed away from the traditional circular shape and is now a crescent shape, which is complimented by a sculpted octave key design.
Rounded tone hole cups: Very much reminiscent of a vintage horn.
Redesigned palm keys: Designed to fit much more comfortably in a palm, these keys have been bevelled and shaped.
Side F? and top F? redesigned: Designed to much more comfortably fit into a hand shape.
Deluxe hand engraving: This range has some super elegant engraving, really making it stand out.
The amount of thought that has gone into each aspect of design in this saxophone is truly mind blowing. Each aspect has been deliberated over to help the player find the overall sound they’re looking for.
