Now available from our Moorabbin store, these handmade Grenadilla barrels are some of the only commercially available alternative barrels for the Yamaha CSG lineup. They are made with beautifully seasoned Grenadilla wood, and offer a slightly different taper to the factory supplied barrels, to slightly adjust the tone and intonation of the overall instrument for player preference.
We currently have these available in small size (54.5mm) and large size (55.5mm) - please specify which size you're after in the comments section of your order when buying online. Alternatively, you're welcome to bring your CSG clarinet in to our stores to test play and find the perfect one for your instrument - simply give us a call before you head down and we'll take care of it!
Works on both Bb and A clarinets!
The barrel joint is an extremely important aspect of the overall acoustical design of the clarinet. It has a profund affect on modal ratios (pitch) and tonal coloration. We can think of the barrel as the "interface" between clarinet and mouthpiece.
Barrel design was dramatically improved with the innovation by Hans Moennig of the inverted cone bore. This is a shape that is suited well to the paradigm of polycylindrical bored clarinets (most Buffets) and the larger bore style mouthpieces preferred by American players.
FOBES barrels feature an inverted cone style bore and are designed to work in conjuntion with FOBES mouthpieces. Improvements you can expect with a FOBES barrel are:
- Closer twelfth intervals
- Slightly lowered pitch in the tones of the left hand, upper register
- Focused throat tones
- Increased resonance and response
All FOBES barrels are made from aged African blackwood with NO RINGS for better resonance and warmth.
