The name Robert Carée is legendary in the field of clarinet design. He is the person responsible for so many advances in the acoustics of the instrument such as the original development and design of the R13 that he designed and created in 1955, and all improvements that have since been made to the R13 and all other Buffet Clarinets.
In 1974 he decided to design a better clarinet and used the R13, as it was at the time, as a starting point. Robert Carée re-designed and improved upon the design that he developed in 1955 by changing the bore/barrel dimensions (but still retaining the same basic idea behind the poly-cylindrical bore), tone hole size and tone hole placement, as well as fully undercut tone holes which improve tone, response and intonation in all registers. The result is a clarinet with a richer, more resonant tone, better intonation and greater projection and this makes the Buffet RC Clarinet ideal for the soloist, chamber musician and the orchestral clarinettist.
Buffet was so pleased with the finished product that they named it after him, hence the name RC (Robert Carée). - Thorough visual check for any wood or plating defects.

- Test all pad seatings & key adjustments using a feeler gauge.
- All key corks and felts checked, adjusted to set vent heights.
- Regulate and adjust keywork as required.
- All spring tensions checked and adjusted to create a balanced feel across the instrument.
- Test final pad seal with a Magnehelic air pressure test.
- Check joint tenons for correct fit and adjust.
- Tenon corks checked for cork quality and greased.
- Play test from top to bottom.
- Case inspected for quality, instrument fit and accessories.
