Instrument details The design of the Besson BE981 EEb tuba is one of the most famous designs in history of tuba develoment. Made famous by the legendary John Fletcher who advised on its design, it has for a couple of generations been regarded as possessing the ultimate rich tone in bands and also professional symphony orchestras.
Constructed with a larger bore mouthpipe, the tuba produces a wider symphonic tone. Considered a "concert" model, the BE981 tuba is designed for playing in the seated position. A lower position mouthpipe offers comfort to the symphonic player whether they be playing in a concert band or symphony orchestra.
