Since early this year, I play exclusively with Legere Signature reeds , except for some very special programs, with my Playeasy B2 mouthpiece, which is specially designed to play with synthetic reeds. The very obvious advantage of these reeds is that you almost can get the exact same reed every time whereas for the cane reeds you always need to modify a little bit every time or take at least several days to totally get used to the fresh reed. Another benefit of this reed is that it works without pre-moistening. This is very good for orchestra players who usually need to keep the reeds wet during the long time break in one program, which certainly is not so pleasant. In terms of the sound, my idea is that it suits most genres of music but not all since the synthetic reeds can give a very clean sound. Finally, the reeds can last a very long time and it would not be affected by the temperature and moisture. For this reason, even for the conservative people who do not want to try the new technology, keeping one synthetic reed in the reed case is like an insurance if all cane reeds unfortunately do not work in some emergency cases.
